Workplace and Posture-Related Pain

Workplace pain is one of the most common reasons people see a physiotherapist — and one of the most preventable. Whether you sit at a desk all day or perform physical work, sustained postures and repetitive movements place consistent load on specific structures. Over time, the muscles, joints and nerves that bear this load become sensitised and painful. The good news: most workplace pain resolves quickly with the right treatment and some practical changes to how you work.

Your first session is £60 (60 minutes) — assessment, diagnosis and hands-on treatment combined. Follow-up sessions are £40 (30 minutes). Same-week appointments, no GP referral needed.

What Drives Workplace Pain?

Workplace pain is rarely caused by one thing — it's usually a combination of posture, load and insufficient movement.

Prolonged static sitting

Hours of sitting — even in a 'good' position — fatigues postural muscles and increases load on the lumbar discs. The spine is designed to move, not to stay still.

Poor workstation setup

Screen too low, chair at the wrong height, mouse too far away — small ergonomic issues compound significantly over an 8-hour day.

Repetitive tasks

Repeated movements — typing, assembly, lifting — create cumulative load on specific tendons, muscles and joints that exceeds their capacity over time.

Manual handling

Lifting, carrying or sustained awkward positions in physical jobs place direct load on the spine, shoulders and knees — particularly when technique is compromised by fatigue.

How We Treat Workplace Pain

Treatment addresses both the pain and the underlying cause — so it doesn't come back when you return to work.

Full assessment of your symptoms and work demands

Understanding exactly what you do at work and how it relates to your pain is the starting point. We identify the specific structures affected and the workplace factors driving them.

Hands-on treatment for pain relief

Manual therapy, joint mobilisation and soft tissue work to reduce pain and restore movement — getting you comfortable faster.

Strengthening and conditioning

Building the strength and endurance in the muscles that support your posture — so your body can cope with the demands of your working day.

Ergonomic advice

Practical guidance on workstation setup, sitting position, movement breaks and task modification — evidence-based and specific to your job.

Return to full work capacity

For those who have had to reduce duties or take time off, a structured return-to-work programme with clear milestones.

Yes — desk-related back pain is one of the most common and most treatable conditions we see. Most patients see significant improvement within 4–6 sessions alongside some practical changes to their work setup.
Do I need time off work for physiotherapy? +
No — sessions are available in the evenings and weekends. Treatment is designed to keep you working while you recover, not to take you off work.
Can my employer pay for physiotherapy? +
Some employers have occupational health provisions or private healthcare plans that cover physiotherapy. Check with your HR department. We are also recognised by AXA Health, Bupa, WPA, Aviva and Vitality.
Do I need a GP referral? +

How much does treatment cost? +
Your first session is £60 (60 minutes) — including assessment, diagnosis and hands-on treatment. Follow-up sessions are £40 (30 minutes).
